Game always crashes to desktop 5 minutes in

I just bought Guns of Icarus during steam's sale. I am playing on an Asus gaming laptop running the 64bit version of Windows Vista.

Whenever I launch the game and start the intro/tutorial thingy, it crashes about 5 minutes in, immediately at the start of the fourth wave. There's no error message and it doesn't lock up, the game just closes and I'm left staring at my desktop.

Help?

I'm running it on 32bit Vista fine. Have also not had any problems on XP. Just curious but have you tried shutting down all your background stuff like antivirus, firewalls, and everything else (disconnect from the internet/local network before doing so).

I'm not saying this is the answer - merely wondering if you've simplified what's running concurrently (at the same time) to try and pin down a possible cause.

You might want to try a lower res graphics setting, and try seeing if playing in a windowed session or whether full screen seems to make a difference.

Since it always crashes at the same point at least you have a reference point. When you say "fourth wave" are you talking about the fourth town you are at, or the fourth wave when playing "into the breech" endless survival?

If it is at a certain town, try adding a new campaign and take a different route that avoids that town. It might have something to do with the graphicical layout (weather, etc.) for that stretch of travel. For example, if it is supposed to be a stormy stretch, try to see if the game crashes during stormy legs of travel (there should be a couple different areas with the same weather settings).

These are all just wild guesses, I'm not sure if any of it is useful but try and pin down something more specific. Saying that the "game crashes" without providing much information is like call a car repair shop and telling the mechanic that "something isn't working right" and leaving it up to them to figure it out without ever having seen the car.

Let us know what you can pin down as a possible problem. Someone should be able to take that information and possibly help.

I meant the very first mission in campaign mode where its explaining how to use the guns and keep your ship running and so on. When I say waves I mean when a plane appears and you shoot it down and wait, a couple more appear you shoot em down and wait, etc. There's like 3 "waves" then you have time to repair, then about when I man the gun and start to shoot during the fourth wave the game just shuts down. However I think it is a time elapse thing, I tried starting up a multiplayer game and the game shut down again after it had been running for about the same amount of time.

I've already tried different resolutions, windowed mode, fullscreen mode, turning down and turning up graphics. I've played with all the settings but this computer runs a lot of high end games just fine so its not likely it would be any sort of setting problem. I've also tried re-downloading and reinstalling.. The only thing running in the background is Steam and I always shut down my virus scanner and so forth before playing any games.

Hi Anzha,
We found the problem and fixed it. We've rebooted the European game server, and it should be working correctly now. Please give it a try! Have fun and thanks a lot for your patience.

Tried loading it up and playing and its still crashing at the same point. Not sure how the European server would affect me as I am in the US. For what its worth, my wife who also bought a copy so we can play co-op is having no problems running it. Her computer is also an Asus running Vista 64 (though not the exact same model, hers is a smaller economy laptop not a gaming model), we've compared computer settings and everything else between our systems and we can't figure what little difference allows hers to run it when mine won't.

After reading this post I realized that my game seems to crash at the exact same spot, however, I do get an error message. I earlier posted this on the bugs and problems section...
