Introducing the Fabricator Contest

1

Hello Developers! We have an exciting announcement. We’ve teamed up with Unity to launch a new bi-monthly contest based around the creation of awesome Unity Prefabs (for the Unity devs a Prefab is a type of asset — a reusable GameObject stored in Project View). In layman’s terms, it means objects that you can drag and drop into your game! First up is a flamethrower, so bring the heat!

We’ve got awesome prizes too. This time Unity is giving away 2 tickets to their excellent UNITE conference, held each year, this time in Montreal, November 10-12th, an $800 value! (not to mention all the knowledge you’ll receive!).

Finally, and perhaps the most exciting: All the source files for the submissions will be released to the community at the conclusion of the contest. You can then use them in your games, and even continue to improve upon the assets. This contest is designed to benefit the community, and we hope our entrants will share our spirit of collaboration.

So what are you waiting for? Head over to http://musegames.com/contest to download the contest project file and get cranking!

Check out Unity’s blog for their coverage as well!

Both ourselves and Unity cannot wait to see what you guys come up with. Good luck!

The bright future of Guns of Icarus

0

I’ll be the first to admit we’ve taken our sweet time to make some announcements concerning the future of Guns of Icarus. For that I apologize, but now that things are well underway and looking good, we figured it’s time to make some brief reassurances.

Early this spring the popularity of the Guns concept became clear and, working with a major partner, we began active development on a follow up to the original Guns of Icarus. This time we’re going all out – the game will be on a much bigger scale, along the lines of an MMO. We will be continuing with Unity and the browser platform, and although its extremely early for details, you can expect to play sometime in 2011.

I hope you guys are as thrilled as we are. For those of you who loved the concept, but yearned for more with the original Guns of Icarus, I dare say you won’t be disappointed.

Note: You can discuss this development and continue to make suggestions (we’re listening) in this user-created forum topic (thanks Superooo!).

Sincere thanks for all your support thus far,
The Muse Team

Introducing the New MuseGames.com!

0

Introducing the new MuseGames.com, our platform for the future of browser gaming. Over the past few months we’ve completely redesigned the site from the ground up – soup to nuts, features to visual design. If you’re a player, you’ll happily note a much-streamlined experience, and a distraction free interface. If you’re a developer, you’ll relish a quality venue to publicize and sell the game you so diligently constructed, as well as a redesigned store to handle all your monetization needs.

Here’s some of the new features in further detail:

Complete Redesign
With this redesign we set out to build the best visual showcase for 3D games on the web. This first and foremost meant removing every remaining scrap between the player and the games they came to play. The new MuseGames.com is our ideal vision for true browser gaming.

Friends/Followers
Playing games is a social experience, and now the site backs that up even further with the introduction of friends/followers. Just hit the plus next to anyone’s name to follow them and track their scores. More features to come here over the next few months, including Challenging.

Leaderboards Redesign
Gone is the aimless lists of players and the percentage based scoring. Leaderboards is now all about you and the people you play against. Enjoy level specific scoring, overall player performance, plus friends and site-wide bests.

Consolidated Games Page
We’ve consolidated the front and games page, now all the games are in one place. Roll over the title image to see screenshots, and use the quick find function to quickly pull up your favorite game. You can also hit “Coming Soon” to see the upcoming titles!

New Store
A brand new, much streamlined store awaits. Each product now has a dedicated highlight page and the store itself can now deftly accommodate any form of monetization: demo/full, expansion packs, microtransactions, pre-orders, combo packs, even mobile.

Easy Purchase Tracking
Find all your purchases on your account page, and if you’ve got a serial code for your game, it will be displayed clearly alongside your game.

+ PLUS
Forum Track Topic
You asked, you received. Track topic with email updates is now available in the forum.

Quick Find
Want to find a game real quick? Just type its name into any of the Quick Find search boxes and retrieve results in real-time.

Full screen button
Quick access to full screen for supported games! Another oft-requested feature.

& much much more.

We sincerely hope you enjoy. Let us know what you think, and kindly drop any launch bugs you discover in to our feedback forum.

New MuseGames.com coming Monday!

0

We’ve been a bit radio silent these past few months, but have been toiling away behind the veil. In addition to the game & API projects going on (more on those at a later date), we’ve completely redesigned MuseGames.com itself. Every single page on the site received a substantial, if not total, overhaul and most of the site functions were also upgraded to get them leaner, meaner, and more precise. The organization and the UI has been sharpened and trimmed, and now virtually nothing gets between you and the games you came to play. We’re one step closer to realizing our vision of true browser gaming. I can’t wait to show it you.

We’ll be officially debuting all this new stuff on Monday, along with our next 3rd party game, Jetlane. I’ll also have a more complete feature list for you to browse. Here’s some sneak peeks of what you can expect:
