MUSE GAMES’ GUNS OF ICARUS TO BE FIRST NEW CROSS-PLATFORM TITLE ON STEAM
Indie game will be the first new title to launch on Steam with both Mac and PC versions available.
NEW YORK, NY – May 12, 2010 - Today Guns of Icarus, an independent title from cross-platform developer Muse Games, will be the first new title to debut on Steam in both the Mac & PC stores, alongside the launch of the new Mac Steam client. This high-intensity title lets a player or a group of players defend a mighty zeppelin against a myriad of enemies out to steal precious cargo, all within a richly detailed steampunk world.
“We’re so excited to join Steam in the launch of their groundbreaking Mac client, in addition to serving their vast PC userbase,” said Howard Tsao, CEO of Muse Games. “Today’s a great day for gamers & developers alike. “
Guns of Icarus was developed using the Unity engine, allowing it to easily deploy to multiple platforms, including Mac & PC. This was a crucial ingredient in the development of an indie title like Guns of Icarus, where teams do not enjoy the man-power luxuries of larger studios.
“Tools such as Steam and Unity allow a small development team like ours to focus on what matters most, the game itself,” said Brian Kehrer, Technical Director for Muse Games. “Every minute spent porting means a minute lost from gameplay.”
Guns of Icarus is available starting today for $9.99 through the Steam store: http://store.steampowered.com/app/49800

About Guns of Icarus
Guns of Icarus takes place in a dystopian future where the only way to transport anything is by airship. These mighty creations, amply equipped with six gun stations, must battle inclement weather and the vicious pirates that dot the skies. Players must cooperate to balance gunning down attackers and repairing their ship – without the right balance, your crew is dead and your cargo lost. As players progress they are able to upgrade their ship with more sophisticated weapons.

Hi there,
just bought the game via Steam and wanted to play with my friend. But both of us (both Vista 64 user, both Steam players) couldn’t see any game. I tried to search simultaneously for games via the browser version and it was possible to see 3 open games. Via steam there was nothing… and no chance to get logged in any game… not my friend’s game or any other, cause there was nothing on the list.
We opened firewalls and router ports, but that didn’t change anything.
Second bug i got is, that it’s not possible to play in 1920×1080 resolution… only one step lower. Game wouldn’t start with highest resolution and Fantastic graphic setting.
Please help… maybe we forgot some ports?
P.S.: We tried both… american and european server pools.
One thing more to the multiplayer problem: Steam version is build 17, browser version is build 18!
Hi Fiku,
Thanks for the feedback. We have since updated to build 18 and everything should be working normally again.
Did you try re-installing? I’m running build 18 in 1920×1080 with no issues.
Hello,
I bought your game, and it’s pretty neat. The gameplay is good, and the ambiance is great.
However, I think there is a huge, huge potential in this idea (carrying goods from town to town on an airship in a hypothetical steampunk future) that was almost left untouched here….
I understand that you’re mostly developing arcade games that can fit in a browser, but honestly, with some bits of RPG and / or 4X elements here and there, you could have turned this game from “fun way to spend half an hour” to a great and interesting adventure. Seeing as how the game market is almost devoid of steampunk universes (only Arcanum spring to mind, although some Final Fantasy games had a bit of that too), I think you have found yourself a niche market, but failed to really exploit it to its maximum potential.
So if you ever want to create Guns of Icarus II, give it some thoughts :p
Hello there, just purchased your game today via Steam. The game says it is co-op but when I click multiplayer it just says “Connecting to muse…” And does not progress beyond that. I am wondering what to do.
Ya I have the same issue as Zacaris, just sitting there saying “Connecting to muse” and then nothing else happens.
Any suggestions?
