Bricks on Damper Pedals

0

Adam ChimeraA good friend of ours, Adam Chimera, composes the music for our games. He’s a very talented one-man orchestra, recording studio, and sound engineer. He wrote the score for Elementia, and in my opinion, its one of the game’s best assets.

I wanted to let you guys in on a excerpt of his words from a recent email exchange on the music direction for our upcoming game. I hope this makes you salivate with anticipation the same way it does me.

What I’m thinking here is a core of traditional instrumentation with featured instrumentation that evokes machinery: Anvils, tubular bells, blown bottles, fingered water glasses, electric bass/guitar played below the bridge and/or above the nut so that only someone who has some intimacy with the instrument would even be able to ID it as such. You can get all kinds of crazy-yet-melodic effects by using a piano in nontraditional ways (put a brick on the damper pedal and tap the strings with mallets, step on the damper pedal harder than you normally would and close-mic it, etc).

I’m drooling. Are you?
